One of the most firm lines of division in the United States is the division between liberal Left and conservative Right. We have always had this line of division in this country in one form or another though. It's nothing new. What is new is how far we have gone to the extremes in 2020 and how violent things have become. We now have a very deeply entrenched group of complete Leftists who want a dismantling of the Nation, our Constitution, and any hope of building on our past. We also have an extreme Right fringe, and yes it is only a fringe, White Nationalists who are opposed to the integration of minorities into American society.
Both of these extremes are a danger to the healing and forward momentum of the Nation which began in the 1960s. All of the work, sacrifices, bloodshed, and growth experienced during the 1960s was in vain if we let the current trend continue. But, the only hope of stopping it, short of another civil war, is the rational thought of the 80% of the nation who are somewhere in the middle. Slightly Left or slightly Right of center, willing to discuss our problems in a mutually respectful way and seeking solutions.
